Accountant Frank Bigelow (Edmund O'Brien) arrives in San Francisco for a brief vacation and visits a local dive, the Fisherman's Club, where a mysterious stranger slips him a mickey of "luminous toxin" that leaves Bigelow with less than a week to live! In a desperate attempt to locate his murderer, Bigelow embarks on a lurid odyssey of double-dealing, betrayal and murder that leads to a nightmarish climax.
