**************************************** THE TEENBEATS - Surf Bound
Billed as the #1 Teen Band in their hometown of Las Vegas, The Teenbeats were a great attraction in a city already full of exciting activity, so you know they HAD to be good. The time was the early 1960s, and high school entrepreneur's & on-air disc jockeys' Steve Miller & his friend Keith Austin (pictured on the cover photo crouching down in front) were also DJ's at the weekend high school dances they promoted, and the popularity of these events led to a weekly local TV teen dance show called 'Teenbeat Las Vegas'. As the TV show developed, Steve & Keith decided to recruit a house band, and plucked the ravin' high school dance combo named The Checkmates and renamed the group The Teenbeats. This exposure afforded the group opening spot on all high profile gigs for such out of town honchos as The Beach Boys & others. The Teenbeats were hip to the surf-toned reverb sounds of the day, and recorded some tasty sides of their own. Television success for Miller & Austin was not enough, and the boys again capitalized of their popularity by opening a live teen club, similar to the Cinnamon Cinder Teen Club run by Bob Eubanks in Los Angeles. By 1964 it was a reality, as they booked a steady flow of great So. California surf bands. The Sentinals, Goldtones, and Starfires even recorded Live albums at the Teenbeat Club. Today, Steve Miller is a Las Vegas City Councilman, and plans on running for Mayor. For this LP, Keith Austin assembled the tapes that include previously unreleased Live recordings from The Knights Of Columbus Hall, Las Vegas 1962, PLUS all three singles released by The Teenbeats, as well as some Unreleased Stereo Outtakes. All in all, this is the definitive Teenbeats LP!
